all i’m going to say is 9.5 straight hours of sleep last night.  this kid is awesome

March 12, 2009

We’re spoiled people. We are having so much fun with this little guy. Indy is not having so much fun…she would do nearly anything for a little more attention as seen in the pictures below. But before you get too sad for Indy, she is still getting plenty of playtime and belly rubs and snuggles. I promise.

Anyway, this little guy slept for 6 1/2 hours straight last night. Don’t tell the lactation people…they might come hunt me down. But after the suggestion we decided it was a good idea to test the waters a little bit and push the limits. So, I woke up at 3 1/2 hours to check, then again at 4, and 5, and finally at 6 hours. He was sleeping peacefully at each. Hooray! We’ll see if it lasts but it was a great night nonetheless.

Here are some more pictures…I know we can’t get enough of him. Here’s hoping you enjoy him too!

And now some bonus material:

As I was beginning to type this a saying came to mind…”down, down, down, up, down”. I had to think for a moment before I realized what it meant but once I remembered I thought it worth sharing. It comes from the ol’ driver’s ed days and is the appropriate way to brake so as to not give your passengers whiplash. You can thank me later for my wisdom. The comment section would be a fine place for such thank yous.

Pure Joy

March 11, 2009

I think it is obvious to most people when I (K) write in this blog because there are lots of grammatical errors…so bear with me as I try to recreate the pure joy we experienced last night.

As my wife and I were reading our bible last night in our bed with Biz lounging around with us (don’t worry everyone, he does not sleep in our bed with us), I realized how much fun this having a son thing is going to be.  I was reading and she was staring at B…when I looked up she had tears in her eyes.  For those of you who know us well, it is not abnormal for her to have tears in her eyes for no apparent reason.  Before I asked what was wrong she said “He’s so cute.”  Over the course of the next few minutes Biz was smiling and even laughing out loud.  We sure do love that little guy.  After a few smiles and laughs, she said “if you ever want anything all you have to do is smile at me like that again.”  So I said “Come on B, smile like that just one more time for her.”  I didn’t get a smile, but he did fart loud enough that it startled himself.  Then he gave just a little grin.

You would think that was the end of our funny little story, but as we went on reading, all of the sudden I said that my arm got very warm.  I associated this with the fact that my arm was almost completely asleep from leaning on it for so long.  When we finished reading we prayed and after that we got up to put him to bed.  He had peed all over the place.  The reason my arm was warm was because urine is warm, especially on bare skin (if you don’t believe me watch Dumb and Dumber).  After changing him we learned that he apparently peed enough that it ran out of his diaper, through his clothes, and onto my arm and my side of the bed.  Biz has now been on our bed two times and both times he has peed on the sheets.

Well, kinda. Our first photo shoot happened approximately 30 seconds after delivery when the doctor asked if we wanted a picture of the 3 of us. Then there were the photos taken on my parents camera…not professional but very special nonetheless. But the first coordinated, professional photo shoot took place in the hospital just one day after B’s birthday. And here is the result. Enjoy!

We are enjoying ourselves. Biz misses all of the family that came to see him but had to go back home…and let’s be honest, so do we!! But we are loving all of the sounds and faces and moves that seem so simple but are more amazing than we ever could have imagined.

The pediatrician told us to tell everyone that we’re doing miserable…no sleep, cranky baby, etc. in order that we get all of the sympathy we can. But that wouldn’t be right. Biz got a great report at his first Dr. visit. He’s proving that he’s eating just fine as within just a few short days he has achieved and even surpassed his birth weight. Next on the agenda: looking into baby diet options!!! Along the same lines, K is amazed that a guy so little can produce so much foul smelling waste. The best news heard yesterday was that there may come a day when there is no dirty diaper and that we should not worry about that. Worry about it? We’re throwing a party that day. Everyone is invited…details to come!!

Hello everyone out there still checking this.  I only have a little more information to pass along.  B passed his hearing test!  We are so proud (HaHa).  The picture shows how funny he looked with his first set of headphones and wires stuck to his head.  He was not impressed, but he didn’t seem to mind either.

L is up and around right now…she is getting cleaned up for our photo shoot later today.

Take care everyone
